Fading back to reality

Hello, my name is Iulian and I am addicted to reading.

I fell in love with reading the day I was able to understand what those tiny squiggly symbols were, filling up the page, and I’ve never stopped since. But I lived in a land far, far away, on the outskirts of Eastern Europe in a time and place when reading was somewhat frowned upon. Well, some reading material at least.

Funny enough the autarchic, dictatorial communist regime wasn’t so much afraid of science fiction or fantasy, even though a lot of it was loaded with subtle slaps and pokes at its very core. I can only assume the rulers at the time were not witty enough to understand the power of those stories.

That’s how I got the chance to read amazing novels such as those written by Jules Verne or H.G. Wells.

Fast forward thirty some years and shift the geography to the United States. Oh, what I would’ve given as a child to have access to what I have access today. The Internet, the magazines, the blogs, the information. It just flows and flows, so much so that one could spend every minute of every hour glued to the screen. Of course, that’s not healthy either, but I wanted to put in perspective the vast gap between what I grew up with what is available today.

So, when my writing career began to shape up, a tiny seed of an idea began to crawl through my head. It was the idea of an online magazine. A bunch of people warned me it is a difficult and daunting task. To that I said: so what?

It’s hard, but nothing easy was ever great. My philosophy is: acknowledge the fear, accept it and do it anyway. Let yourself be driven by the potential unlimited success rather than the dangers of failure. Be Thomas Edison and say “if I find 10,000 ways something won’t work, I haven’t failed. I am not discouraged, because every wrong attempt discarded is another step forward.”

So I decided to push forward and give my gut a chance, and that’s how this magazine came to be.

This is a project driven by passion and by the love of the written art form. It’s a way for me to feel closer to the writing community and give back at the same time. I hope in time this project will grow and evolve into a pro-market where well-known authors will seek to be accepted.

No matter what it becomes, Fantasy Scroll Mag will always be a welcoming ground for new authors. If you haven’t published, are struggling to publish, or have a limited number of publications, we invite you to submit to us. Remember that first and foremost we are looking for well-written, great stories. I know you have those stories… So, don’t be shy and send them over!

Good luck!
