Emily grew up in New Hampshire and went to college in Boston for journalism. She spent her first two years out of school working full-time as a reporter, and she left her job to go to Odyssey. She moved to Berlin, Germany in fall 2014 to write fiction and non-fiction and to explore, and now lives on the top floor of a pre-both-wars former tenement building.
You can spot one of her stories by searching for the following motifs: winter, bones, female friendships, the Victorian occult, super-anxious characters, helplessness or longing. Many of her stories are set in alternate versions of early modern, 19th or 20th century Europe. She frequently draws on her traveling experiences while writing.
When she’s not feverishly writing fiction or non-fiction, you might find her riding her bike Hildegard, memorizing German vocabulary and teaching English to the children of Berlin.
