Rachel Pollack

Rachel Pollack is the author of 36 books of fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and art. She is the winner of the Arthur C. Clarke Award and the World Fantasy Award. Her novel, The Child Eater, will be published in July 2014.


Rachel is the author of 7 novels, including Unquenchable Fire, winner of the Arthur C. Clarke Award, and Godmother Night, winner of the World Fantasy Award. She is a world authority on the Tarot, her book 78 Degrees of Wisdom being described countless times as “the Bible of Tarot readers.” Rachel created and drew The Shining Tribe Tarot, and collaborated with Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean on the creation of The Vertigo Tarot. Her card deck The Burning Serpent Oracle, created with famed Tarot artist Robert M. Place, has just been released. She has written comics for DC/Vertigo, including Doom Patrol and the original SF story, Time Breakers. With David Vine, Rachel translated the ancient Greek play “Oedipus Rex” as Tyrant Oidipous. Her work has been translated into 14 languages, and she has taught across the U.S. and Europe, and in China, Australia, and New Zealand. She is a senior faculty member in Goddard College’s MFA program.
